Destinations Florida

Tallahassee, Fla. – Destinations Florida, the statewide association that serves local tourism promotion organizations, was a big winner at last night’s Flagler Awards. The association took home the Best of Show award in the category for organizations with an annual marketing budget of less than $500,000. Destinations Florida was also recognized with a Henry Award (the top award in each category) for its tourism advocacy efforts.

“This year has been tough for Florida’s tourism industry, but these awards remind us why we do what we do and that there is hope, along with hard work, ahead of us,” said Robert Skrob, President of Destinations Florida. “We are honored to receive these awards and continue to remain focused on supporting Florida’s tourism industry and all of Florida’s destination marketing organizations who are working hard each day to ensure their communities thrive.”

The Flagler Awards, presented by VISIT FLORIDA, is an annual statewide competition that seeks to recognize and honor the people and organizations that support Florida tourism industry through their skills, resourcefulness, creativity and innovative spirit.

Destinations Florida won two awards for their 2019 Green Slime Campaign, during which they delivered “green slime” containers to each of Florida’s legislators to shine a light on the negative media potential visitors might hear about Florida and how misperceptions directly impact our state’s economy by driving visitors away. The effort, done with a budget of just $500 by established public relations firm CoreMessage, Inc., not only garnered $250,000 worth of media coverage, but also successfully called for the reauthorization and funding of VISIT FLORIDA.

“We are proud to have worked on a winning campaign on behalf of Destinations Florida and Florida’s tourism industry,” said Jennifer Fennell, Vice President of CoreMessage, Inc. “We understand how important this industry is to our state and we remain committed to creative and innovative efforts that help share Florida’s tourism story.”
