Sen. Jeff Brandes on Thursday filed a bill to implement a renewable energy tax break that voters approved in August.Amendment 4 extended a tax break from residential to commercial property for solar or renewable energy source devices. The measure, backed by business and environmental groups, received 73 percent voter approval during the Aug. 30 general primary. Brandes, a Republican from St. Petersburg, said Thursday in a news release that his SB 90 has broad, bipartisan support.”The voters of Florida spoke loud and clear that they expect the Sunshine State to make the expansion of solar and renewable energy a priority,” Brandes said. “I have been committed to diversifying our energy portfolio, and I am excited about the opportunity to bring further investment in solar and renewable energy production.”The bill would provide the exemption from Jan. 1, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2037. And it would revise the definition of “renewable energy source device” to include devices that store solar or geothermal energy.
