WTXL: Marsy’s Law goes into effect in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – A new law is now in effect that will help protect crime victims throughout the state.
Marsy’s Law went into effect Tuesday. According to MarsysLawForFl.com, on Nov. 6, 61 percent of Florida voters voted to pass it.
The Tallahassee Police Department says this is important to keep victims safe because any information that can be used to locate or harass a victim will be redacted no matter what the crime is.
Law officials are hopeful that this will provide a sense of security to crime victims.
“It’s security knowing that they don’t have to worry about anyone coming after them,” said TPD Officer Damon Miller. “We will be working hand in hand with our victim advocates to make sure we have all the correct information that way we can keep the victim safe from what’s going on with the case.”
Miller said that if you are a victim of a crime you will be working more closely with TPD’s Victim Advocates to make sure all of your information stays confidential.
